Argyle & Prindle score as WNE extends unbeaten streak to six games
ANNANDALE, N.Y. (September 18, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 shutout victory over Bard College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Ferrari Field.
Junior newcomers Charlie Argyle (Marshfield, Mass.) and Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) both scored for the Golden Bears, while senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) posted a four-save shutout, his second clean sheet of the season.
After a scoreless first half in which Western New England dominated play with a 15-3 shot advantage, the visitors broke through in the 49th minute when Argyle beat Bard sophomore goalkeeper Logan Leppo (Lawrenceville, N.J.).
Leppo stopped the next four shots that he faced, but the Golden Bears secured an insurance goal in the 76th minute following a corner kick. Sophomore Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) delivered the ball to Prindle on the wing, and he slotted home a low shot from close range to the far post to make it 2-0.
Brewer made a pair of saves during the final ten minutes of the contest to preserve the shutout.
• Western New England outshot Bard 29-9, while the Raptors held a narrow 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
• Since dropping their season-opening contest to Bridgewater State, the Golden Bears have gone 5-0-1 and outscored their opponents 20-1.
• Prindle has recorded at least one point in five of seven matches this season, and he leads the team with ten points.
