Argyle scores for Golden Bears with assists from Prindle & Claflin
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team fell victim to a second half rally by Springfield College on Monday evening as the Pride came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over the Golden Bears in non-conference action at Brock-Affleck Field.
Junior goalkeeper Dylan Husted (South Deerfield, Mass.) made his third straight start in net and finished with six saves on eight shots.
Springfield's offense was led by seniors Christian Schneider (Douglass, Mass.) and Ian Zacharewicz (Stamford, Conn.), who both found the back of the net in the second half.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead just under eight minutes into the contest, when Claflin and Prindle set up Argyle for the game's opening goal.
Junior Ty Champagne (Watertown, Conn.) put a shot on target in the tenth minute, but the Western New England offense was contained the rest of the way as the Golden Bears held a 1-0 edge at halftime.
The Pride equalized in the 59th minute on Schneider's fifth goal of the season, before Zacharewicz converted from the penalty spot in the 71st minute to put the home team ahead.
The Springfield defense surrendered just one shot down the stretch as the Pride held on for the one-goal victory.
• The Golden Bears were limited to five shots and two shots on goal.
• Argyle, Prindle & Claflin all began their collegiate careers at Springfield before transferring to Western New England.
Western New England (9-5-2) will be back in action on Wednesday night, when the Golden Bears host Worcester State in a non-conference contest at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. Springfield (11-3) faces WPI at home on Saturday afternoon.
