Westford, Mass. native posted four-save shutout and scored first collegiate goal on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 22, 2018) – Senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) of the Western New England University men's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Brewer earns CCC weekly recognition for the first time in his career after posting a four-save shutout on Saturday in Western New England's 5-0 victory over the University of New England.

Brewer made one save in the first half and three in the second half en route to his third clean sheet of the season.

The Westford, Mass. native also scored his first collegiate goal in the 64th minute when he converted a penalty kick opportunity for the Golden Bears. 

Western New England (10-6-2, 3-2-2 CCC) wraps up its regular season schedule at Roger Williams on Tuesday afternoon, before opening the CCC Tournament on Saturday.
