SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 20, 2019) – The Western New England University men's soccer team has been picked fifth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The Golden Bears received 51 points in the poll, which is voted on by all nine head coaches in the CCC. Endicott was selected as the preseason favorite with 76 points and six first-place votes, while Gordon followed in second place with 72 points and two first-place tallies. Roger Williams received the final first-place nod, finishing third with 56 points, and Salve Regina placed fourth with 54 points. The final four spots in the poll went to the University of New England (28), Nichols (28), Wentworth (27) and Curry (14).

Western New England is coming off an 11-7-2 (4-2-2 CCC) campaign last fall in which the Golden Bears finished fourth in the league standings. Head coach Devin O'Neill begins his fifth season at the helm of the men's soccer program in 2019.

Western New England brings back ten student-athletes who scored multiple goals last season, including senior forward Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.), who registered a team-best 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists). Junior Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) and senior Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) also return after compiling 14 and 12 points last year, respectively. Senior Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.), a 2018 All-CCC second team selection, will lead the Golden Bears' defensive unit.

The 2019 season gets underway on Friday, August 30th at Babson College, before the Golden Bears return to Suprenant Field on Sunday, September 1st for their home opener against Bridgewater State. Western New England's non-conference slate also features matchups with Westfield State (9/11), Brandeis (9/21) and Trinity (9/25), while CCC play begins on Saturday, September 28th with a home contest against Wentworth.
