SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 26, 2018) – Senior Jenn Luba (Plymouth, Conn.) and sophomore Paige Uliase (Meriden, Conn.) of the Western New England University softball team have both earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Luba was named the CCC Player of the Week, while Uliase collected CCC Pitcher of the Week accolades after the duo helped the Golden Bears post a 3-3 record over their final six games in Florida.
Luba hit .375 (6-for-16) with a walk, two RBI and three runs scored. She recorded at least one hit in five of six contests, including a 2-for-4 effort with one RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 6-3 win over Wooster.
Uliase went 2-1 in three starts in the circle last week while posting a 2.53 earned run average with ten strikeouts over 19.1 innings of work. In Thursday's 6-3 win over Clarkson, Uliase turned in a complete game performance, striking out six batters and allowing just one earned run. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate in that contest.
Western New England (4-6) is scheduled to open CCC play on Wednesday at Nichols, pending weather and field conditions.
