PROVIDENCE, R.I. (January 30, 2016) - Sophomore Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) placed second in the 125 pound weight class to highlight the Western New England University wrestling team's showing this afternoon at the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Open.
Competing in a tough field that included NCAA Division I, II and III as well as junior college programs, McLinden was the lone Golden Bear to place in his respective weight class. The sophomore posted a 19-2 technical fall over Saylee Phongsamphanh of Rhode Island College in his first bout, before advancing to the final with a 7-0 decision over Anthony Donofrio of Johnson & Wales. McLinden faced another Wildcat in the championship, falling to Bobby Jordan in a 16-1 technical fall to finish second.
Sophomore Austin Sisco (Denville, N.J.) went 2-2 in four bouts, earning his 50th career victory in the process. Sisco started off his day with consecutive pins of Rhode Island College's Stephen Masi (1:21) and Cody Beaudette of Johnson & Wales (4:05), before dropping his final two contests.
Western New England will be back in action on Wednesday night at the Springfield City Championships, hosted by American International College at Butova Gymnasium.
