Western New England Finishes Second at City of Springfield Championship
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 3, 2016) - The Western New England University wrestling team turned in a strong second place finish this evening at the City of Springfield Championship, hosted by American International College at Butova Gymnasium.

The Golden Bears went 2-1 in three matches, defeating the host Yellow Jackets 36-15 in their opener, before dropping a tight 26-21 decision to Springfield College and claiming a 44-9 victory over Springfield Technical Community College in their finale.

Individually, junior Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and sophomores Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) and Austin Sisco (Denville, N.J.) each went 3-0 to lead the way for Western New England, while juniorBrian Donovan (Manchester, Conn.) posted a 2-1 mark in his three bouts.

WNE 36, AIC 15
The duo of McLinden and Sisco got the Golden Bears off to a strong start against AIC, as each pinned their opponent at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively, staking Western New England to a 12-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with wins at 141 and 149, but forfeited at 157, 165 and 174 to seal the victory for the Golden Bears.

McLinden and Sisco posted wins by decision at 125 and 141, respectively, and a Springfield forfeit at 133 had the Golden Bears ahead 12-0 after three bouts, before the Pride rebounded with four straight wins to take a 20-12 advantage. Cole pinned Connor Sheehan at 184 (6:59) and Donovan recorded a 2-1 decision over Seve Burgos at 197, however, as Western New England reclaimed a 21-20 edge, but Springfield's Irakli Kakauridze pinned Oumar Keita in the heavyweight bout (4:13) to secure the triumph for the Pride.

WNE 44, STCC 9
Western New England rolled in its final match of the night, as McLinden's 6-5 decision over Christian Antoine was followed by five STCC forfeits. Nick Koury and Dominic Liqouri got the Rams on the board with wins at 174 and 285, while Donovan accepted a forfeit at 197 and Cole was victorious in a 16-1 major decision over Josh Barnard at 184.

Western New England (7-12) returns to action this Sunday at Trinity College, as the Golden Bears are set to take on the Bantams, the University of Southern Maine, and SUNY Sullivan.
