SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 27, 2016) -
Sophomore Austin Sisco (Denville, N.J.) went 2-0 and advanced to the semifinals at 133 pounds, highlighting the Western New England University wrestling team's participation today at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Springfield College.

Sisco opened his day by pinning Adam Correia of Plymouth State (2:19), and followed that up with a 1-0 decision over Stephen Masi of Rhode Island College. Sisco will take on Springfield College's Tyler Keane tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., with the winner earning automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships, which will be held the weekend of March 11-12 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Even with a loss to Keane, Sisco can still qualify for nationals, as he just needs to secure a top-3 finish in his weight class.

Classmate Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) also posted a pair of wins at 125 pounds, defeating Saylee Phongsamphan of RIC by fall (2:07) and Earl Roberts of Coast Guard with a 4-3 sudden victory, before being eliminated with a 12-2 major decision loss to Nick Barbaria of Roger Williams.

Juniors Andrew Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and Brian Donovan (Manchester, Conn.) each went 1-2 in their three bouts at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively. Donovan posted a 10-3 decision over Anthony Brooks (Williams), while Cole won his opener, defeating Dominic Pirraglia (Wesleyan) with a 5-3 sudden victory.

Also in action for the Golden Bears was senior heavyweight Oumar Keita (Springfield, Mass.), who joined the wrestling team two weeks into the 2015-16 season. Keita went 0-2 in his two bouts, bringing his collegiate career to an end.
