Golden Bears Face Pair of Nationally Ranked Teams at Norwich Quad

McLinden posts 7-6 decision over Forsman, NEWA's No. 3 ranked wrestler at 133 pounds

NORTHFIELD, Vt. (January 14, 2017) – The Western New England University wrestling team took on a pair of nationally ranked programs earlier today at a quad meet hosted by Norwich University at Plumley Armory.

The Golden Bears dropped a tightly contested opener to the host Cadets, 24-18, before falling to No. 24 nationally ranked Coast Guard (52-0) and No. 3 ranked Johnson & Wales (44-4).

Junior Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) provided the highlight of the day with his 7-6 decision over Norwich sophomore Jacob Forsman, who entered today's action as the New England Wrestling Association's (NEWA) No. 3 ranked wrestler at 133 pounds.

Senior captain Brian Donovan (Manchester, Conn) and freshmen Alex Starr (Lebanon, Conn.), Austin Roche (Southborough, Mass.) and Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.) were also victorious against Norwich as the Golden Bears won five of the nine contested bouts.

Donovan was also the lone Golden Bear to pick up a win in the Johnson & Wales match with his 15-3 major decision over Peter Hailer.
