ITHACA, N.Y. (November 2, 2018) – The Western New England University wrestling team opened its 2018-19 campaign on Friday at the 35th Annual Ithaca Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College at Glazer Arena.
The Golden Bears sit in a tie for fifth place with Springfield College after posting a team score of 27.5 during Friday's action. Ithaca is leading the 12-team field with a score of 42, followed by Castleton (36), RIT (34.5), and Johnson & Wales (33.5).
Western New England received strong performances from juniors John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) and Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomores Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) and Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.), and freshman Jeffrey Suschana (Somers, Conn.). All five Golden Bears earned spots in Saturday morning's championship quarterfinal round.
Additionally, senior Josh Nelson (Bristol, Conn.), juniors Austin Roche (Southborough, Mass.) and DJ Tartsinis (Colchester, Conn.), and sophomores Dan Price (Nyack, N.Y.) and Justin Delucia (Holbrook, N.Y.) are still in the hunt for third place in their respective weight classes.
Day two of the Ithaca Invitational is slated to begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
