Veilleux & Hathaway Earn CCC Weekly Awards Following Season-Opening Win at Keene State

Veilleux named Defensive Player of the Week, Hathaway collects Rookie of the Week honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 4, 2018) – Senior goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Autumn Hathaway (Colchester, Vt.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team have both earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) following the Golden Bears' season-opening win at Keene State on Saturday.

Veilleux was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while Hathaway collected her first CCC Rookie of the Week award.

Veilleux stopped seven of the eight shots that she faced, including all four in the second half, as Western New England rallied to earn a 2-1 win in double overtime.

Hathaway put a team-high three shots on target and scored the game-winning goal on a header early in the second overtime period to lift the Golden Bears to their first ever victory over the Owls.

Western New England (1-0) returns to Suprenant Field to host Springfield College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
