Western New England Falls to Springfield College, 7-1

LeBlanc nets first career goal for Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 5, 2018) - The Western New England University women's soccer team fell to crosstown rival Springfield College, 7-1, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field. 

Top Performers
Sophomore midfielder Lauren Leblanc (Belchertown, Mass.) scored for the Golden Bears late in the second half, while freshman Vanessa Chiarella (Hampden, Mass.) provided an assist on the play. 

Five different players tallied goals for Springfield, including freshman midfielder Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.), who registered a hat trick. 

Game Review
The Pride took control early with an aggressive offensive attack. Dale opened the scoring just over four minutes into the contest, before making it 3-0 with her second goal of the afternoon in the 35th minute. Springfield outshot Western New England 16-4 in the first half and led 4-0 at the break. 

Springfield picked up right where it left off in the second half, as Dale completed her hat trick at the 60:50 mark. The visitors would tack on two more goals before Chiarella connected with LeBlanc in the 88th minute to get the Golden Bears on the board. 

• Springfield outshot Western New England 23-8, but the two teams were even with three corner kicks each. 
• Freshman goalkeeper Shannon Murphy (Halifax, Mass.) saw her first collegiate action in the second half.

Up Next
Western New England (1-1) will look to bounce back this weekend, as the Golden Bears travel to Maine to face UMass Boston (Saturday) and Husson University (Sunday) at Husson's Courtyard Mariott Classic. Springfield (3-0) plays at Endicott on Saturday.
