SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 9, 2018) – Freshman forward Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Bruehwiler played a key role in Western New England's 3-2, comeback victory over Gordon College on Saturday at Suprenant Field.
The freshman helped the Golden Bears overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit with a pair of goals early in the second half. After getting Western New England on the board at the 46:49 mark, Bruehwiler converted from the penalty spot just over three minutes later to tie the contest.
In the 77th minute, sophomore Danielle Skates (Berlin, Conn.) completed the rally with her first collegiate goal to put the Golden Bears ahead for good.
Bruehwiler, who also scored two goals in Western New England's 2-1 win at Mount Holyoke on September 11, ranks second on the team with four goals this season.
A 2018 graduate of Old Saybrook High School, Bruehwiler played soccer all four years for the Rams, serving as team captain her senior season. She was a two-time All-Conference and one-time All-State selection, scoring 38 goals during her high school career. Bruehwiler also competed in track for three years, collecting a pair of All-State honors.
