The following academic standards have been adopted for student-athletes and correspond in spirit and form with the academic standards established by the University. Compliance will be evaluated each semester. In some cases, the standards for student-athletes exceed those for the general student population. All student-athletes are required to carry a minimum course load of 12 credits each semester. If at any point in the semester, the credit load falls below 12, eligibility is withdrawn. In order to remain in good academic standing, a student-athlete must also meet qualitative standards listed below according to the established credit range. Grade Point Average (GPA) levels assume the successful completion of at least nine credits each semester, 24 over the year. Summer courses must be limited to either the term prior to or the term following, not both. When considering transfer credits, only the credits can be applied not the GPA.
|Credits Attempted*||Minimum Cumulative GPA|
|48 and above||2.0|
*Note that "Credits Attempted" includes all credits attempted by any institution.
The academic standards policy of the University states that full-time degree students with fewer than 24 credits attempted and whose cumulative grade point averages are between 1.0 and 1.9 at the end of their first term of enrollment will be automatically placed on academic probation. One of the requirements of probation is participation in academic progress monitoring with the Academic Support Center during which a prescribed academic plan of improvement will be stipulated. A student who fails to follow the recommended plan and/or whose probationary semester GPA is below 2.0 or who fails to complete at least nine credits will be suspended according to the procedures outlined in the catalogue. The catalogue should be consulted for complete details associated with the standards.
Students with less than 24 credits whose GPA falls below 1.0 or who complete less than nine credits at the end of the first term of enrollment shall be immediately suspended unless considered otherwise through appeal to the Dean of Freshman & Transfer Students. After the completion of the second semester of full-time enrollment, students shall be automatically placed on probation if a semester GPA of 2.0 is not minimally earned. Unless otherwise stipulated, full-time students must also successfully complete 10 or more credits each semester. After 87 credits (95 in engineering), students must also maintain a 2.0 GPA in their major and a cumulative 2.0 GPA. Western New England Athletics and the Academic Standards Committee review each student-athlete’s progress at the conclusion of each semester.
