Women’s Wrestling Ranks 23rd In The Open Mat Team Ranks, Four Golden Bears Sit In National Rankings, Nine Total In NWCA Regional Ranks

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 13, 2025) – The Western New England women's wrestling team has been ranked 23rd overall in the first The Open Mat rankings of the season, while four total Golden Bears have also been individually ranked in their respective weight classes by the organization. Additionally, the National Wrestling Coaches Association released the individual national and regional rankings, seeing nine total Golden Bears receive ranked status. 

WNE women's wrestling continues its ranked status by The Open Mat after ending last season ranked 14thoverall by the organization. The Golden Bears open the season sitting 23rd overall and are headlined by their impressive start to the season, seeing 14 Golden Bears place in the top-six of their respective weight classes to begin the season at The Princeton Open, while coming away with a pair of dual match victories over the University of Bridgeport (44-4), and Norwich University (43-4) this past Sunday in the home opener. The Golden Bears look to continue that success when they host New England College on Saturday, November 15, for a 1:30 PM start. 

In the 117 lb. weight class, WNE first-year Maddie Ripley sits 19th overall in the weight class. Ripley wrestled in her first career collegiate match this past Sunday against Norwich University, coming away with a 10-0 technical fall win in just 34 seconds. In an extra match, Ripley wrestled a weight class up, defeating Norwich's Savannah Halbert at 124 lbs., needing just 27 seconds to pick up an 11-0 technical fall win. Ripley sits fifth regionally in the weight class, as announced by the NWCA.

At 124 lbs., Linda Holeman sits eighth overall in the weight class in the first rankings of the season by The Open Mat. Holeman was a second-place finisher at The Princeton Open to open the season, coming up with a 4-1 record at the event. Holeman also ranks first in the NWCA Regional Rankings, released today, and is ranked eighth overall nationally. 

In the 131 lb. weight class, Western New England's Jazmene Molina ranks 11th overall in the nation in The Open Mat rankings. Molina was also a second-place finisher at The Princeton Open, picking up a 4-1 record and falling just short of a first-place finish, falling on a 10-6 decision in the championship match. Molina sits second overall in the NWCA Regional rankings. 

Tanya Teneva ranks 14th overall for the blue and gold at 138 lbs. in The Open Mat rankings. Teneva was the third second-place finisher for Western New England women's wrestling at The Princeton Open, coming away with three wins in four matches, falling in the championship match. Teneva also wrestled this past weekend at the Golden Bear Duals, defeating Norwich's Charli Carbajal on a fall in 41 seconds and Bridgeport's Callisto Banks on a fall in 1:01. Teneva also had an extra match victory over Norwich's Veronica Conant, another fall in just 22 seconds. Teneva begins the season with a 6-1 record and is also ranked fourth regionally by the NWCA.

Regionally, Western New England sees nine total ranked by the NWCA in rankings released today. Ripley (5th), Holeman (1st), Molina (2nd), and Teneva (4th), are joined by teammates Ayana Contreras (3rd – 110 lbs.), Sanyah Queen (4th-145 lbs.), Sky De Leon (4th-160 lbs.), Atiyana Williams (2nd – 180 lbs.), and Emily Dudar (3rd – 207 lbs.). 

Contreras impressed in her collegiate debut, winning the 110 lb. weight class at The Princeton Open, and then went on to come up with a dual match victory at 110 over Norwich University's Jayla Vazquez, a fall win in just 16 seconds. 

Queen took fourth place in her collegiate debut at The Princeton Open in the 145 lb. weight class, picking up a 4-2 record at the event overall, earning three fall victories and one via technical fall. 

De Leon opened her career two weekends ago at Princeton and placed third overall in the 160 lb. weight class, winning four of five matches on the afternoon. De Leon finished with a victory in the third/fourth place match to start her collegiate career. The Sunnyvale, California, native then wrestled twice this past weekend, both technical fall wins over Norwich University (12-1 4:13), and University of Bridgeport (10-0, 1:12). 

Williams was a sixth-place finisher for the Golden Bears at Princeton to open the season, picking up a 2-2 record for the day, winning one match via decision (6-0) and another on a fall (1:34). 

Dudar began the season with a fourth-place finish for Western New England at the Princeton Open, picking up four wins on the afternoon overall, all coming as fall victories for the Golden Bears.
