Women’s Wrestling Knocks off No. 20 Ursinus College, Take Down Southern Virginia for First Win over Ranked Opponent in Program History

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (November 18, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team pulled off an upset victory on the road at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Bears of Ursinus College while defeating Southern Virginia University in tri-match action. 

How it Happened (vs. No. 20 Ursinus College)
Two matches nearly went the distance for Western New England, as Linda Holeman (130) and Dakota-Marie Dinielli (143) would collect victories for the Golden Bears. Holeman would be down early in the match before coming all the way back to take the 130 lb. weight class over Stacy Bloomfield via fall in 5:40.

Dinielli would earn Western New England five points on the afternoon in the 143 lb. weight class, defeating Paisley Fox via fall in 4:40. The gritty Golden Bears captain came all the way back to earn the fall victory.

Sabrina Sedor would earn a victory in the 136 lb. weight class to continue to get the Golden Bears points as the sophomore would defeat Lauren Gherman via fall in 1:43. Western New England would earn forfeit victories in the 116 lb. weight class as Ariel Casella would take the win while Kendall Branchaud would pick up the forfeit win in the 155 lb. weight class. The Golden Bears would come around and collect a 26-19 victory, earning their first dual win over a ranked opponent in program history.

How it Happened (vs. Southern Virginia)
The Golden Bears would compete in four matches, with the Knights taking three of the four victories. Linda Holeman would grab the fall victory in 4:33 in the 130 lb. weight class to move to 2-0 on the day. Sabrina Sedor would also take the victory over Southern Virginia in the 136 lb. weight class, defeating Makenna Dolt via fall in 0:30. Kendall Branchaud would cap off the afternoon of wins for WNE, defeating Natalie Erazo in 0:10, her fastest victory of her career, sending WNE to a 30-15 overall win.
