Women’s Wrestling Takes Down No. 9 New Jersey City at Region I Duals

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (December 3, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team won their opening match of the afternoon, taking down No. 9 New Jersey City University by a final score of 28-16. Western New England would also battle three other ranked opponents, facing No. 21 Elmira College, No. 10 East Stroudsburg University, and No. 5 Sacred Heart University on the afternoon.

How it Happened (vs. No. 9 New Jersey City)
Six of the nine matches competed in would fall the Golden Bears way. Gianna Hernandex would pick up a fall victory in 2:34 to get Western New England their first victory of the day in the 109 lb. weight class. Victoria Orender would compete in a thrilling match at 123, ending in a 10-9 decision in favor of Orender as the Golden Bears would continue to roll. Linda Holeman picked up a pinfall victory in 2:42 at the 130 lb. weight class, while Sabrina Sedor (136), Dakota Marie-Dinielli (143), and Kendall Branchaud (155) would all record pinfall victories for Western New England as the blue and gold would defeat NJCU by a final score of 28-16.

How it Happened (vs. No. 21 Elmira College) 
The Golden Bears would come away with three wins over the 21st-ranked Soaring Eagles, as Gianna Hernandez, Linda Holeman, and Sabrina Sedor would all come away with their second victories of the afternoon. Hernandez and Holeman would register pinfall victories, while Sedor would grab her first tech-fall victory of the day, winning 10-0 in 1:28. WNE would be bested five times in the match as Elmira would take the 29-14.

How it Happened (vs. No. 5 Sacred Heart University)
Two victories would pave the way for Western New England women's wrestling over the Pioneers, as Ariel Casella and Linda Holeman would drop victories in the 116 and 130 lb. weight classes, respectively. Casella would come away with a huge 10-0 TF victory in 1:18, while Holeman grabbed a pinfall victory at the near end of the match, coming at 5:40, to claim victory. Western New England would fall as a team, 37-10.
