DOLYESTOWN, Pa. (January 13, 2024) – The Western New England women's wrestling team won five matches on Saturday evening at Delaware Valley University, though they were clipped in the final matches of the evening, falling just short of the Aggies, 27-22.
How it Happened:
After the Golden Bears were forced into a forfeit in the 101 lb. weight class, Gianna Hernandex claimed victory over Delaware Valley's Mariah Koster on a 10-2 decision to pick up the first three points of the evening for the blue and gold.
Victoria Orender would have no problems grabbing a victory in the 116 lb. weight class after defeating Joset Wehr in 26 seconds, grabbing a pinfall victory to give WNE an 8-6 lead in the match. Delaware Valley took the 123 lb. weight class match, though
Linda Holeman would come right back in the 130 lb. weight class to come away with a massive 12-1 tech-fall victory, taking four points away from the match.
The Golden Bears would bounce back and take three matches in a row as
Sabrina Sedor defeated Eva Herrera on a pinfall victory in 1:40 while
Dakota-Marie Dinielli continued her dominance on the mat, picking up a 30-second fall victory over Brooke Dylon. Delaware Valley would storm back for three wins in the final three weight classes in the dual to come back from 22-12 down to take the match 27-22. The Aggies improve to 10-4 on the season with the win, while Western New England falls to 7-4 in dual action this season.
