SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 17, 2024) – The WNE women's wrestling team hosted Buffalo State University and the Maine Maritime Academy in dual meets on Sunday. The Golden Bears would take down the Bengals 48-2 and the Mariners 49-1, only conceding three points and not losing a match between both duals. Samantha Rabkin led the Golden Bears with two pinfall wins.

How it Happened (vs. Buffalo State): 

The Golden Bears took on Buffalo State in their first dual of the morning. WNE would not lose a match during their dual with Buffalo State. Claudia King started the dual with a win by forfeit in the 103 lb. weight class. Then, Olivia Amaral and Janieliz Cotto earned wins in the 117 lb. and 124 lb. weight classes. Amaral defeated Renata Tumusabire via pinfall at 4:10, and Cotto defeated Hailey Hankinson via pinfall at 0:13. Ariel Casella then picked up a win via forfeit in the 124 lb. weight class. The Golden Bears then picked up two technical fall victories in a row, followed by another pinfall victory. Abigail Alicandro defeated Rosaliz Aponte via technical fall at 2:05 in the 131 lb. weight class, and Tanya Teneva defeated Brooke Tarshis via technical fall at 3:00 in the 138 lb. weight class. Noelle Alexander defeated Madison Szymanowski via pinfall at 0:12 in the 145 lb. weight class. Atiyana Williams won the 160 lb. weight class match via forfeit, and Mikayla Maloy won the 180 lb. weight class also by forfeit. Samantha Rabkin concluded the dual for the Golden Bears by defeating Kai Douglas via pinfall at 2:31 in the 207 lb. weight class. The Golden Bears defeated the Bengals 48-2.

The Golden Bears would then take on Maine Maritime and would win each match in that dual also. The dual started with the Golden Bears picking up three wins via forfeit. Claudia King won the 103 lb. weight class via forfeit, Olivia Amaral won the 110 lb. weight class via forfeit, and Victoria Orender won the 117 lb. weight class via forfeit. Linda Holeman then defeated Bethany Ives via technical fall at 1:06 in the 124 lb. weight class. The Golden Bears won two more matches by forfeit following that match. Abigail Alicandro and Tanya Teneva each picked up a win via forfeit in the 131 lb. and 138 lb. weight classes, respectively. Kendall Branchaud wrestled next in the 145 lb. weight class. Branchaud defeated Cecilia Edwards by pinfall at 1:02. Atiyana Williams defeated Isabelle Thesing via pinfall at 1:19 in the 160 lb. weight class after Branchaud's win. Then, Mikayla Maloy would win via forfeit, and Samantha Rabkin would be victorious over Courtney Clifton in the 207 lb. weight class via pinfall at 0:31. The Golden Bears defeated the Mariners 49-1.
