SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2024) – The Western New England women's tennis team grabbed an 8-1 victory on Monday afternoon over the Bluejays of the University of St. Joseph's (Conn.) in their final match of the season.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears would outduel their opponent in doubles action, securing the first three points of the game.
Emma Miller and
Jessica Cofrancesco would take the top doubles spot, 8-1.
Catie Seklecki and
Sydney Shepard would combine for an 8-4 victory in the second doubles spot.
Dani Martinez and
Gabrielle Tirkot would sweep their opponent in the third doubles position, grabbing an 8-0 win.
In singles action, Western New England would run the table in the first five singles positions to grab the match victories.
Emma Miller would fight with USJ's Liliana Garcia in the top singles spot, though would come around with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 match victory in three sets. All of the other matches for the Golden Bears would go two sets, with
Jessica Cofrancesco defeating Jillian Milo 6-3, 6-1.
Catie Seklecki won 6-0, 6-3 in the singles number three position;
Sydney Shepard would take down Nina Gardella 6-1, 6-1; and
Dani Martinez came around with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the fifth singles spot. The Golden Bears would come around to win the match by a final score of 8-1.
