BEVERLY, Mass. (April 27, 2024) – The Western New England men's tennis team saw their mini-two-match win streak come to an end while also seeing their season conclude following a 5-0 loss to the Gulls of Endicott College in the CCC Tournament's First Round match.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears would open the match by dropping the first three matches of the afternoon.
Michel Abizaid Nunez and
Henry Runyan would go toe-to-toe with Endicott's Julian Richtarich and Hudson De Risi, though the Gulls second doubles pair would come away with a late victory, 8-5.
Nick Bayer and
Brandon Greger would fall in straight sets in the top spot for the Golden Bears, while
Kyle Poccia and
Thomas Roche would take one set in the third set, falling 8-1.
In singles action, play would quickly move through the first set, with all six of Endicott's singles players taking the opening set. The Gulls would quickly end the match in the fourth and fifth positions, defeating WNE's
Henry Runyan and
Kyle Poccia, respectively, to close out the match and give Endicott a 5-0 match victory. Nick
Bayer would be defeated in the opening singles set, though would be winning 3-2 before the match would end with Endicott's sudden victory.
Western New England men's tennis finishes the season with a 4-10 record, which includes a 2-5 mark in CCC play.
