Golden Bears Only Drop One Match, Run Through Saints 40-9

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 31, 2025) – The women's wrestling program hosted D'Youville University on Friday as part of their Alumni Appreciation and Senior Night. They would pick up victories in nine of the ten matches wrestled during the meet. Jaden Coppins highlighted the meet with a massive pinfall victory after trailing 10-1 during the match.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears saw Gianna Hernandez and Victoria Orender start the day's meet with two wins via forfeit in the 103 lb. and 110 lb. weight classes. Janieliz Cotto then earned the Golden Bears a win versus Rebecca Ridling via an 11-1 technical fall at 2:31 in the 117 lb. weight class. Linda Holeman continued the WNE dominance with a 15-3 technical fall victory at 3:39 against Alexis Brua in the 124 lb. weight class. The 131 lb. weight class match saw D'Youville's Madison Wellen defeat WNE's Abigail Alicandro via pinfall at 1:27. Jaden Coppins would help the Golden Bears bounce back with a massive win in the 137 lb. weight class. A match that seemed lost with Coppins down 10-1 and on the verge of a technical fall loss was turned on its head when Coppins flipped the script and got the pinfall victory over Alessandra Elliott at 3:52. Noelle Alexander, then defeated Saniyah Ward via a 12-2 technical fall at 4:42 in the 145 lb. weight class. The 160 lb. weight class saw Atiyana Williams win via pinfall victory against Zoe Kip to keep the WNE momentum rolling. Shalom Feliz Lopez then competed in the 180 lb. weight class match and would earn the victory over Riley Wentlent via pinfall at 2:59, just before the first half of the match concluded. The final match of the meet, the 207 lb. weight class match, saw Samantha Rabkin win the match by decision, 6-4. That would help wrap up a 40-9 victory for the Golden Bears versus the Saints.
