SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 15, 2025) – The Western New England men's wrestling team picked up a win in its home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bears of Bridgewater State University in the second annual "Bear Cup", coming away with a 32-13 victory.

How It Happened:
The match opened in the 141 lb. weight class with
Nicholas Adams coming up with a match victory, 3-1, over Malcolm Chrispin, earning the first three points of the afternoon for the blue and gold.
Austin Monteiro followed suit for the Golden Bears in the 149 lb. weight class, picking up a 7-3 decision win over Kamel Dib, giving Western New England a 6-0 lead in the match. Three straight decisions were decided to open Saturday's Bear Cup, as the 157 lb. weight class saw
Matthew Rodriguez come up with a 7-3 decision win, giving the Golden Bears a 9-0 lead after the first three matches.
Bridgewater State forfeited the 165 lb. weight class, giving
David Lisk a victory and WNE six more points to their total, taking a 15-0 lead.
Nicholas Baccala continued Western New England's winning ways in the 174 lb. weight class, picking up a fall victory in 2:47, adding to WNE's lead, which stood at 21-0.
Jaylen Hawkins earned a big technical fall win, 17-1, in 4:14 in the 184 lb. weight class as Western New England continued to come up with wins. Bridgewater State picked up its first win of the day in the 197 lb. weight class, as Christian Curley defeated
Charles Maloy on a fall in 2:46.
Colton Wells then grabbed WNE a win in the 285 lb. weight class to return the blue and gold to its winning ways, seeing the junior earn a fall win in 3:21, giving the Golden Bears a 33-6 lead.
The Bears came up with the win in the 125 lb. weight class when Sei Dolomengi earned a major decision win, 15-4, over WNE's
Clayton O'Connor. The final match of the team score counting matches saw Bridgewater State take the win in the 133 lb. weight class as Ethan Buonanducci earned a 7-2 decision win over
Austin Mitrosky. Though BSU took the final two matches, Western New England earned a 32-13 match victory, claiming the Bear Cup for the second straight season.
