NCAA Regionals Game 1: Virginia Wesleyan 11, Western New England 1 (5 Innings)

The Golden Bears started the game with a big hit early. With Angelees Carrasquillo on first and one out, Riley Kane sent the ball down the left-field line for a double. That brought Carrasquillo all the way around the bases and home. WNE had an early 1-0 lead. VWU's starting pitcher, Lauren Bible, would strike out the ensuing batter and get the final batter to ground out to limit the Golden Bears to one run and leave Kane on second base. Kane started the game for WNE in the pitching circle. Kane started the game by getting the first VWU batter to line out to shortstop. Kane struck out the next batter, but a passed ball allowed the batter to get to first base. Kane got the next two batters to hit into outs, and the Golden Bears led 1-0 after the first inning. Bible settled down in the second inning with a one, two, three inning, getting each batter to ground out. Kane only saw three batters as well. However, the first batter walked. Carrasquillo would throw out that runner as the runner tried to steal second. Alex Ferriouolo tagged the runner out. Kane got the next two batters out, and the Golden Bears led 1-0 after two innings of play. Bible started the third with a strikeout and then got the next two batters out to make it eight consecutive outs for Bible. The Marlins would find runs in the bottom of the third. Riley Curtice would get on base due to an error. Then, another error would bring Curtice home two batters later. After that, Sarah Prosser hit a single up the middle of the infield, bringing a run home, and VWU led 2-1. Morgan Tucker hit a triple after that, scoring three runs. That was followed by a Mackenzie Myers double to bring home Tucker and make the score 6-1, Marlins. After another Marlins single, Ava Blanchard would enter the pitching circle for WNE. A throwing error on a VWU steal brought home the seventh run of the inning, and WNE trailed 7-1 with no outs in the third. A two-RBI single from Joslyn Woodard was the next hit for the Marlins, and WNE trailed 9-1. Blanchard got the next batter out via a sacrifice bunt. Blanchard then got the final two outs via a flyout and an interference call. WNE trailed by eight going into the fourth inning. Bible followed the Marlins' offense with another one, two, three inning to make it eleven batters out in a row, picking up one more strikeout. Blanchard would get the first two batters out for the Marlins in the fourth inning. However, the Marlins would load the bases, and a two-RBI single to right-center field from Joslyn Woodard would extend the VWU lead to 11-1. Blanchard got the final batter to fly out, and the Golden Bears were down to their final three outs of the opening-round game. Hannah Hearl entered the pitching circle for Bible in the top of the fifth inning. Hearl struck out the first two Golden Bear batters before getting the final batter to pop out to end the game. WNE fell to VWU 11-1 in five innings.
