Golden Bears Place Fourth in First Ever NCAA Division III National Duals

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA (January 10, 2026) – Day two of the National Duals hosted by the NWCA saw WNE take part in two matches. The first match versus Simpson started with Simpson taking the lead. WNE would fight back, but could not quite catch Simpson, losing 28-17. The Golden Bears fought in match two as well and came back from a 19-9 deficit. However, Aurora's single point in the final match of the day led them past WNE 23-22 to move WNE to fourth place in the duals.

How it Happened (vs. Simpson College):
The Golden Bears fell behind early with Simpson earning a win in the 103 lb. weight class via forfeit and Abigail Fuglsang picking up a 13-2 technical fall win in the 110 lb. weight class. Maddie Ripley answered for WNE with a 12-1 technical fall victory in the 117 lb. weight class. However, Ashley Cannon won the 124 lb. weight class via a 7-4 decision in the 124 lb. weight class. The Golden Bears took the next two matches thanks to Jazmene Molina picking up a 12-8 decision victory and Tanya Teneva winning via a 14-5 decision in the 131 lb. and 138 lb. weight classes, respectively. Simpson responded with Noa Arnold and Keeley Kehrli winning the 145 lb. and 160 lb. weight classes, respectively. Arnold won via pinfall at 2:07, and Kehrli won via an 11-3 decision. Atiyana Williams won WNE's final match of the day via a 13-0 technical fall in the 180 lb. weight class. Simpson ended the match with a pinfall victory at 1:00 by Savannah Sistad in the 207 lb. weight class. Simpson won 28-17.

How it Happened (vs. Aurora University):
The Golden Bears surrendered five points via forfeit in the 103 lb. weight class of the third-place match versus Aurora University. WNE also dropped matches to Katelyn Bell in the 110 lb. weight class via a 16-10 decision and to Alex Janiak in the 131 lb. weight class via pinfall at 1:44. However, Maddie Ripley and Linda Holeman won their matches in the 117 lb. and 124 lb. weight classes, respectively. Ripley won via a 17-6 technical fall, and Holeman won via decision 11-9. Sophia Ball won the 138 lb. weight class for Aurora via 18-7 technical fall to give them a 19-9 lead. However, Sanyah Queen immediately picked up a pinfall victory in the 145 lb. weight class match at 1:46. Sky De Leon followed that with a pinfall victory in the 160 lb. weight class at 3:20, and just like that, the score was tied at 19 with two matches to go. Aurora's Anneliese Tavira won the 180 lb. weight class match via a 5-0 decision. They led 22-19. Samantha Rabkin responded with a 10-3 decision win in the 207 lb. weight class match. However, Aurora picked up a point to WNE's three, and that secured a 23-22 victory for Aurora. WNE would place fourth overall out of 16 teams at the first-ever NCAA Division III National Duals.
