WNE Unable To Slow RIC’s Win Streak, Drop Match 7-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 8, 2026) – The Western New England women's tennis team did all they could to slow down the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College on Thursday afternoon, but could not come away with multiple wins, falling by a final score of 7-0.

Records:
  • Western New England: 4-6
  • Rhode Island College: 10-2
How it Happened:

The Golden Bears were coming off an exciting Senior Day victory on Wednesday afternoon, but couldn't flip that success over to Thursday's match. Malina Dinis and Elise Catlett fell 6-0, in the second doubles position. The Golden Bears bounced back for a 6-3 victory from Yasmine Giacalone and Kayla Ledoux in the third doubles spot, leaving the deciding point to the first doubles position. There, Wynter Worth and Lauren Bilodeau battled, but ultimately could not secure the clinching victory, as Rhode Island College picked up the opening point of the match.

Malina Dinis went the distance in the second singles match against RIC's Arianna DeThomas, but fell just short, 0-6, 6-4, 2-6. Wynter Worth saw action in the top singles match for the Golden Bears, while Kayla Ledoux, Lauren Bilodeau, Sophia Alvaro, and Elise Catlett all competed for Western New England on the afternoon, but the Golden Bears were dropped in all six singles matches and lost the match by a final score of 7-0. RIC earns its second straight sweep over WNE overall.

Up Next on the Schedule:
  • The Golden Bears will have the weekend off before returning to the courts for a massive Conference of New England match at Nichols College, meeting the Bison on Tuesday, October 13 at 4:00 PM on the road.
