Golden Bears Celebrate Esposito In 5-2 Season Finale Victory Over Western Connecticut

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 21, 2026) – The Western New England men's tennis team celebrated its lone senior on Tuesday afternoon in the final match of the 2026 season, which ended in a 5-2 victory over the Wolves of Western Connecticut State University at Forest Park Tennis Courts.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears earned the doubles point on Tuesday afternoon to go ahead 1-0 in the match. Quinn Northrop and Eston Fowler moved up one spot from their usual second doubles position match and played in the top spot, winning a 6-2 match. Colby Esposito won his final doubles match in a blue and gold uniform, teaming up with Kyle Poccia for a 6-1 win to secure the Golden Bears the doubles point. 

Singles action heavily favored Western New England, who got a quick victory in the third singles match from Kyle Poccia, who swept Jack Buck in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to give WNE a 2-1 lead in the match. WestConn got on the board next for their first point of the match, but two straight victories for the Golden Bears iced the match for WNE. Brandon Allen took a 6-1, 6-4 win in the sixth singles spot over Jake Leon, while Henry Runyan picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win in the fifth singles spot to clinch WNE the win. Quinn Northrop came around with a 6-3, 6-3 win for the final WNE victory of the afternoon. Colby Esposito was celebrated as the lone
senior of the team following the match, seeing the Golden Bears come up with a 5-2 win to close out the season. 

WNE's nine wins this season are the most since the 2018-19 season.
