WESTFIELD, Mass. â€" Western New England College bowed to No. 8 Amherst College by the score of 71-58 in the final day of competition at the fourth annual Pioneer Valley Men's Hoop Classic.

WNEC started slow coming out of the gate and trailed 37-25 at the break. The Golden Bears responded with a strong second half effort outscoring the Lord Jeffs 34-33 while limiting them to only eight field goals.

Sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) continued his fine play with a double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 34 points and had 27 rebounds in the two contests to earn a spot on the All-Classic team.

Senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) added 14 points while senior center Mike Cutler (Amherst, MA) came off the bench to score 10 points in 16 minutes for the Golden Bears who are now 2-3.
