Box Score WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - A third period rally fell just short as Western New England College dropped a 6-5 decision to Worcester State in its home opener Thursday night at the Olympia Ice Center in an ECAC Northeast contest.
The Golden Bears trailed 5-1 after two periods before scoring four straight times to tie the contest on a goal by freshman forward Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) at 6:51 of the third period. The Lancers, who were held scoreless for 19:16, punched home the game-winner just 32 seconds later.
It was a frustrating game for Western New England College (0-4, 0-3 ECAC Northeast) who had a commanding two-to-one margin (54-27) in shots.
Levin finished with his first two collegiate goals along with an assist while senior defenseman Dave Wright (New City, NJ) also contributed two goals and an assist. Sophomore forward Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) had the other goal for the Golden Bears.
Sophomore goalie Jamie Babineau (Medway, MA) did a nice job coming off the bench compiling 11 saves (10 in the third period). Freshman forward Connor Fallon (Springfield, MA), playing just his second game, had an assist for his first collegiate point.
Worcester State (1-3-1, 1-1)Â managed to register four power play goals and one short-handed score.
Sophomore Nathan Perreault led the Lancers with three goals while junior Josh McClellan contributed a goal and three assists. Freshman goalie Jason Richardson was outstanding with 49 saves, including 21 in the opening period. He also was credited with an assist on the first goal of the game.
