Box Score WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's hockey team came close to winning its first game, but had to settle for a 3-3 overtime tie against Suffolk in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at the Olympia Ice Center.
Freshman Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) had two goals and an assist while freshman Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) contributed three assists for the Golden Bears who overcame a pair of one-goal deficits. Levin's final score on a power play put Western New England College ahead 3-2 at the 12:49 mark of the third period.
Suffolk tied the contest when freshman John Rocchio (East Greenwich, RI) scored a short-handed goal with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.
Senior Pat Henderson (Marlton, NJ) had the first goal for the Golden Bears with assists from Levin and Lamy that tied the score 16 seconds into the second period. Sophomore Pat Tamez (Mt. Laurel, NJ) also had an assist in the game.
Sophomore goalie Brandon Gervais (Lewiston, ME) came through with a solid performance in his first varsity start finishing with 32 saves.
Suffolk senior goalie Greg Blais (Sault Ste., Marie, Ontario) also was outstanding with 42 saves.
