Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Western New England College men's hockey team stayed close for a period, but Fitchburg State had too much firepower in posting a convincing 10-2 win Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.
The Falcons led only 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes, but broke the game wide open by scoring eight unanswered goals in the second stanza.
The Golden Bears tallied twice in the third period on the first collegiate goal by freshman Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) at the 6:11 mark and a shot by sophomore Stephen Hennesey (Essex Junction, VT) just 2:11 later. Sophomore Pat Tamez (Mt. Laurel, NJ) assisted on the first goal while junior Mike Amato (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and freshman Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) had the assists on the second goal.
Fitchburg State out-shot Western New England College by a 47-21 margin.
