WESTFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) had a game high 13 points and junior forward Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, CT) contributed 10 points to lead Western New England College to a convincing 65-40 win over Amherst in a first round game of the fourth annual Pioneer Valley Women's Hoop Classic at Westfield State.

Sophomore guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) had a solid all-around game with nine points, six rebounds, six assists, and a pair of steals.

Western New England College (3-1) forced 20 turnovers and held the Jeffs (1-4) to only 31.9% shooting from the field.

The Golden Bears, which led 27-19 at halftime, shot 41.8% from the field and held a 33-25 advantage off the boards.

This was the first win for Western New England College over the Amherst in nine meetings dating back to the fifth game of the 1994-95 season, and avenged a  69-43 loss in a regular season game last year in Springfield.
