FITCHBURG, Mass. - Senior Jackie Shedlock (Oak Ridge, NJ) fired a six-hitter and struck out 13 while allowing no walks to lead Western New England College to a 4-1 victory over Fitchburg State College in a non-conference game.

The Golden Bears (18-2) took a 1-0 lead in the third on a one-out triple by junior first base player Erin Whitcomb (Bellows Falls, VT) and sacrifice fly by senior catcher Michelle Boss (Fremont, NH).

Western New England College scored three unearned runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead before Fitchburg State scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout.

Whitcomb had two hits as did sophomore designated player Jess Nelson (South Hadley, MA) and freshman third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT).
