BOSTON, Mass. - Usually when Western New England College and Suffolk meet in softball, you can expect a close game. That was certainly the case Friday when the Golden Bears took two from the Rams by the scores of 3-2 and 4-2.
Senior Jackie Shedlock (Oak Ridge, NJ) was sensational in the opener allowing only three hits while striking out 13 and walking three. Both runs off her in the fifth were unearned. Freshman shortstop Jessica Dickson ((Bow, NH) belted her first collegiate homer, a three-run blast in the fourth that proved to be the game-winner.
In the nightcap, freshman Alex Paterson (Deep River, CT) allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in the complete game victory. Senior catcher Michelle Boss (Fremont, NH) had two doubles and two runs-batted-in while junior shortstop Kristy Kehoss (Cheshire, CT) had a pair of singles and two RBI. Senior second base player Sarah Moisao (Harwinton, CT) also had two hits.
The victories gave Western New England College a 20-2 record and 12-0 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Golden Bears also extended their winning streak to 15 games.
