SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College tied the school record for wins in a season after blanking Albertus Magnus College 11-0 in an opening round game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Friday in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Golden Bears have a 34-3 record, tying the win total previously established in 2002.

Western New England College had a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth when junior first baseman Erin Whitcomb (Bellows Falls, VT) sent everyone home early by belting a grand slam homer to left center.

Senior second base player Sarah Moisao (Harwinton, CT) and freshman right-fielder/catcher Allison Glassick (Guilford, CT) had three hits apiece while Glassick and senior center-fielder Chrissy Locascio (Queens, NY) each had two runs-batted-in.

Senior Jackie Shedlock (Oak Ridge, NJ) permitted only two hits over four innings striking out nine with no walks to improve her record to 19-2.
