Golden Bears win three of four matches at own WNEC Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College's women's volleyball team placed third among six schools at its own WNEC Invitational after winning three of four matches during the two-day event.

On Friday, the Golden Bears defeated Framingham State 3-0 (30-9, 30-24, 30-23).

WNEC came back Saturday for a 3-0 victory (30-10, 30-3, 30-11) over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to take the top spot in Pool A.

The Golden Bears then fell to Plymouth State in a close match 3-2 (25-30, 30-21, 30-22, 25-30, 15-13) in the semifinals.

Coach Greg Poole's team rebounded with a 3-1 victory (30-20, 30-32, 30-22, 30-21) over Framingham State in the third place match.

Junior middle blocker Teddy Woeppel (Cooperstown, NY) represented Western New England College on the All-Tournament Team.

Plymouth State ended Amherst's two-year reign as champions with a 3-1 victory (30-25, 30-26, 15-30, 30-28) in the championship match.
