Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored 20 points as the Western New England College men's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 74-63 victory over Albertus Magnus Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
The win broke a four-game losing streak for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Strong bench play helped Western New England College as the reserves combined for 43 points.
Sophomore guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) had 15 points after connecting on five three-pointers in 12 attempts. Freshman guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) added 14 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Deon Thomas (Albany, NY) played one of the best games of his career contributing nine points (4-for-6 from the field) and eight rebounds.
The Golden Bears led 33-22 at half-time before the Falcons cut the margin to one at 38-37 with 15:27 left and two at 43-41 at the 14:29 mark. Two free throws by Godbout capped an 18-3 run that gave Western New England College a commanding 61-44 advantage with 8:13 remaining in the game.
