BOSTON, Mass. â€" Western New England College trailed by 10 points at half-time, but a second half rally fell short as Suffolk University posted a 78-67 victory Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball contest.

Senior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) led four players scoring in double figures with 14 point while
sophomore guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) chipped in with 11 points coming off the bench.

Junior center Deon Thomas (Albany, NY) continued his strong play with a double double of 10 points and game high 13 rebounds. Freshman guard Matt Maynard (Albany, NY) also had 10 points.

Suffolk led 44-34 at halftime and by 12 at 46-34 at the 18:13 mark of the second half before the Golden Bears chipped away at the lead finally going ahead 57-56 on a jumper by Godbout with 7:01 left in the contest.

A basket by Thomas gave Western New England College its biggest lead at 64-61 with 4:39 left, but the Rams reeled off 10 unanswered points over the next 2:12 to hold on for the win.

Both teams made 26 field goals, but Western New England College shot only 40% from the field and 52.4% from the foul line (11-of-21). Suffolk, meanwhile, made 44.8% of its field goal attempts and 79.2% of its foul shots (19-for-24).

The Golden Bears out-rebounded the Rams by a 45-35 margin with senior forward Jason Cardinal (Ashaway, RI) and freshman forward Kyle Fredette (Wallington, VT) each pulling down seven rebounds.

Both teams are now 8-9 and 6-4 in the conference.
