Jon Godbout leads way as Golden Bears fly by Falcons in record-breaking fashion

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) tied his career high with 28 points and Western New England College set a school record for three-point field goals after posting a 97-52 victory over Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.

Godbout made 8-of-12 shots from three-point territory that was one shy of the school record.

The Golden Bears finished with 16 three-pointers in 35 attempts that smashed the old record of 12 set against Daniel Webster in 2004.

The win was the 200th for WNEC coach Mike Theulen who compiled 173 victories coaching the Springfield College women and men in the 1980's and 1990's. He is now 27-19 in his two seasons for the Golden Bears.

Sophomore guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) contributed 14 points coming off the bench while freshman guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) added 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

All 14 players scored for the Golden Bears who evened their record at 9-9 while improving to 7-4 in the conference.

Freshman guard Shawn Mendenhall (Bridgeport, CT) led the Falcons with 13 points while senior guard Victor Purnell (Los Angeles, CA) chipped in with 11 points.

Albertus Magnus, which had only seven players in uniform, scored the first five points of the game and held a 16-15 lead at the 10:20 mark of the opening half. The Falcons fall to 2-15 overall and 2-10 in the GNAC.
