Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior center Lisa Masella (Newtown, CT) scored a game high 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Western New England College to a 62-47 victory over visiting Westfield State in a non-conference game Thursday at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Sophomore guard Jennifer Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) added 10 points for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 6-3.
Playing for the first time in 26 days, Western New England College shot 50.9% in the game and out-rebounded Westfield State by a 35-26 margin.
Masella was particularly effective inside making 11-of-17 shots, including 7-of-8 attempts in the opening half.
Western New England College led 33-23 at half-time and took its biggest lead at 47-27 following a basket by Dabrowski with 15:56 remaining in the contest.
The Owls (4-6) made a nice comeback cutting the margin to 11 at 56-45 after a basket by freshman guard Lauren Sylvain (Hadley, MA) at the 5:09 mark, but the Golden Bears maintained control down the stretch.
Sylvain finished with 17 points and five rebounds for Westfield State while freshman forward Andrea Wasuk (Lenox, MA) contributed 11 points.
Junior forward Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) had a solid game for Western New England College with six points (making all three shots from the field) and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.
Junior guard Christine Aldrich (Montpelier, VT) added seven points and five assists while sophomore guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) chipped-in with six points and a career high nine assists.
