Box Score ASHBURNHAM, Mass. - With a trio of freshmen leading the way, Western New England Collge twice overcame a pair of two-goal deficits in gaining a 6-6 overtime tie against host Franklin Pierece Saturday in an ECAC Northeast game at the Theodore Iorio Arena. The Golden Bears trailed 3-1 after the opening period and 6-4 after the second stanza before bouncing back.
Freshman Philip Lamy (Manchester, NH) closed the margin to one with his first collegiate goal at 7:46 of the third period. Classmate Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) tallied the equalizer at the 16:13 mark.
Senior goalie Brian Essig (Saddle Brook, NJ) then did his part making five stops in the extra session to complete a 35-save night.
Despite allowing six goals (four on power plays)Â Western New England College's defense held the Ravens scoreless for the last 25:11 of the contest.
Majesty finished with two goals while freshman Jake Rinaldo (Union, NJ) contributed three assists. Lamy and junior Mike Amato (Mt. Laurel, NJ) each added a goal and assist. Essig was credited with an assist on Majesty's game-tying shot.
Western New England College is now 1-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference. This was the Golden Bears' first contest since a 4-1 win over UMass-Boston on December 10.
Coach Karl Enroth's team has little time to rest as they host Plymouth State (7-3-1, 5-0) at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in an non-conference matchup at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.
