Western New England College blanks Simmons and Pine Manor in GNAC action

BOSTON, Mass. â€" Making its third trip down the Massachusetts Turnpike to Beantown in a week proved a successful venture as the Western New England College’s women’s volleyball team posted a pair of 3-0 victories over host Simmons and Pine Manor Saturday (Oct. 14) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The Golden Bears downed the host Sharks in the first match by the scores of 30-17, 30-17, and 30-18.

Senior Amy Lorinovich (Hampstead, NH) and juniors Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) and Ashley O’Keefe (South Dennis, MA) each had nine kills while senior Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) compiled 33 assists.

Western New England College won the second match against the Gators by the scores of 30-15, 30-15, and 30-23.

Senior Kristin Wellen (Marlboro, MA) led the way with 14 digs while freshman Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) added seven kills.

Vogel again set the offense in motion with 27 assists while also serving for four aces.

Western New England College, under first-year coach Charlie Haer, is now 13-8 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
