WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Western New England College used a balanced scoring attack in posting a 6-2 victory over Division II Assumption College in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey contest Tuesday night (Nov. 28) at the Olympia Ice Center.
The Golden Bears got off to a fast start by taking a 3-1 lead just 6:06 into the opening period and never lost control the rest of the way,
Sophomore forward Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) led the Golden Bears with a goal and two assists.
Junior forward Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME), sophomore forwards Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) and Jason Remsbecker (Farmingdale, NY), and freshman forward Matt Haddock (Hilliard, OH) each contributed a goal and assist.
Haddock started the evening off by converting a power play goal 3:24 into the game before the Ice Dogs tied the contest just 23 seconds later. Levin then scored on a power play goal at the 5:09 mark followed by a short-handed goal by Lamy 57 seconds later.
Assumption (1-5, 0-1) pulled within 3-2 at the 7:27 mark of the second period before junior forward Ross Bennett (Warwick, RI) extended the margin back to two at 12:34. Longley and Remsbecker added goals in the final stanza to complete the scoring.
Junior goalie Brandon Gervais (Lewiston, ME) finished with 20 saves for the home team.
Western New England College is now 4-4, which equals its entire win total from last season. This also was the first conference win for the Golden Bears in four outings.
