SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" The Western New England College men’s hockey team is heading into the holiday season with a lot of good cheer.
Freshman forward Matt Haddock (Hilliard, OH) scored two goals in the first period and sophomore goalie Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT)Â compiled 13 saves for his first collegiate shutout to lead the Golden Bears to a 3-0 victory over visiting Becker College in a non-league game Thursday evening (Dec. 7) at the Olympia Ice Center.
Sophomore left wing Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) assisted on all three goals.
Sophomore forward Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) had the final score with an empty net goal with 21 seconds left in the game. He also had an assist.
Haddock gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead with power play goal just 3:26 into the game with assists from Lamy and sophomore defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA). He added his sixth goal of the season at he 18:36 mark as Lamy and Levin assisted on the play.
Freshman goalie Anthony Oliveira (Stratham, NH) finished with 23 saves for the Hawks (2-9-1).
Western New England College has a 6-5 record at the holiday break after winning for the fourth time in its last five outings. The Golden Bears return to action with a home ECAC Northeast contest against Franklin Pierce on Saturday, January 6.
