Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Sophomore goalie Jamie Babineau (Medway, MA) made 42 saves and Western New England College used a strong start to take a 4-1 win over Framingham State Thursday night in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game.
The victory snapped a six-game losing streak and gave the Golden Bears their first win in conference play.
Western New England College jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first period when freshman forward Joe Willard (Holliston, MA) scored his first collegiate goal only 1:11 into the contest. Senior defenseman Dave Wright (New City, NY) hit the back of the net at the 9:13 mark with his eighth goal of the season. Senior forward Pat Henderson (Marlton, NJ) and freshman defenseman Pat Kelly (Madison, CT) assisted on the play.
The Golden Bears upped their margin to 3-0 when freshman forward Philp Lamy (Manchester, NH) knocked home his third goal of the year with an assist from sophomorw wing Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME) at 15:45. The Rams made it 3-1 with a short-handed goal at 17:44 of the period.
Western New England College again went up by three when Henderson scored his eighth goal of the season at 3:27 with assists from Wright and sophomore forward Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) at 3:27.
The Golden Bears are now 4-15-3 and 1-11-2 in the ECAC Northeast heading into the final game of the season next Tuesday (Feb. 21) at Plymouth State.
