CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Western New England College's softball team couldn't come up with a timely hit when needed and the result was a 5-4, 1-0 doubleheader loss to Wheaton Tuesday at the Cusic Classic.
The Golden Bears led 4-0 after two innings in the opener before a costly error led to a pair of unearned runs as the Lyons scored three times in the third before going ahead by scoring twice in the fourth. WNEC managed only three hits in the last five innings.
Senior Kristy Kehoss (Cheshire, CT) had a homer for Western New England College while freshman Toni Hand (Londonderry, NH) went 2-for-4 with a run.
In the second game, sophomore Alex Paterson (Deep River, CT) turned in a solid performance allowing eight hits with two walks and a strikeout. Senior Jen Piorkowski (Trumbull, CT) had two of the six hits for the Golden Bears who left six runners on base.
