SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior catcher Kristy Kehoss (Cheshire, CT) hit two homers in the opener, one leading off the bottom of the first inning and the other ending the game, as Western New England College defeated Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball doubleheader Friday by the scores of 10-5 and 11-0 in games called in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.
The Golden Bears clouted four round trippers in the opener as sophomore second base player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) and sophomore right-fielder Allison Glassick (Guilford, CT) also went deep.
Ganser finished 6-for-6 in the twinbill after getting a double, three runs, and a RBI in the nightcap.
In the second game, freshman shortstop Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) also went 3-for-3 with three runs and a RBI while freshman left-fielder Amanda Aceto (South Portland, ME) had a three-run triple.
Sophomore Alex Paterson (Deep River, CT) improved her record to 5-2 after allowing only four hits and one unearned run in four innings in the first game. Freshman Laura Bower (Hudson, MA) went to 4-1 after giving up only three hits with four strikeouts in four innings in the second contest.
Western New England College (14-4, 8-0 GNAC) now has a 10-game winning streak and is undefeated up north after splitting eight games in Florida during spring break.
The Golden Bears also have captured 52 straight conference games over a three-year period.
