Springfield sweeps Western New England College in battle of city rivals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader at city rival Springfield College Wednesday afternoon by the scores of 9-1 in five innings and 5-2.

Senior catcher Kristy Kehoss (Cheshire, CT) led off the first game with her eighth homer of the season, but that was the only hit for the Golden Bears. The Pride, meanwhile, had 10 hits and took advantage of four errors that led to six unearned runs.

Western New England College fared better in the second contest with nine hits as sophomore first base player Jackie Card (Greenfield, MA) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT) also had two singles in three at-bats along with a stolen base.

Springfield scored single runs in every inning but the fifth in raising their record to 19-16.

Western New England College, which has lost three straight games, falls to 27-7.
