SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" The Western New England College women’s volleyball team opened its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season Thursday night (Sept. 14) with a pair of 3-0 victories over Johnson & Wales University and Saint Joseph College (Connecticut) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Against JWU, the games were close, but the Golden Bears prevailed by the scores of 35-33, 31-29, and 32-30.
Senior middle hitter Amy Lorinovich (Hampstead, NH) led the WNEC attack with 16 kills while senior defensive specialist Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) had 18 digs. Sophomore setter Marissa DiSimoni (Pittsfield, MA) added 30 assists.
In the second match of the evening, Johnson & Wales coasted to an easy 3-0 win over St. Joseph College (Connecticut) by the score of 3-0 (30-6, 30-18, 30-20).
Western New England College (7-5)Â then had little trouble against SJC winning 30-21, 30-10, and 30-12. Lorinovich (10 kills) and Vogel (12 assists) led the Golden Bears attack.
