Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) scored a game high 14 points to lead the Western New England College women’s basketball team to a 57-46 victory over visiting Saint Joseph (Connecticut) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Wednesday.
Dabrowski also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists as the Golden Bears snapped a six-game losing streak.
Junior guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hampden, CT) contributed nine points while freshman forward Kaylyn Smith (Rensselaer, NY) provided a big lift off the bench with a season high nine points. Senior center Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) pulled down 11 rebounds as the hosts took a 47-35 edge off the boards.
Western New England College (4-8, 1-1 GNAC) scored the first 10 points of the contest before Saint Joseph netted the next 10 points. The Golden Bears pulled away to take a 32-18 lead at halftime and led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Junior guard Samantha Krupa (Cromwell, CT) led the Blue Jays with 11 points while sophomore forward Gina Morales (Newington, CT) was outstanding coming off the bench with 10 points (all in the second half).
Saint Joseph falls to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the GNAC.
The game was a reunion between WNEC coach Nicole Chaszar and SJC coach Kim Martin who were classmates and teammates on the Temple University women’s basketball team. Both players graduated in 2000.
